Colonoscopy Procedure
Request an Appointment

Colonoscopy allows a doctor to look directly at the inside of your large intestine. Using a flexible tubular instrument called a colonoscope, doctors can project the images in magnified detail onto a video monitor. The procedure can help in diagnosing colitis, tumors and causes of bleeding, and is used extensively for colorectal cancer screening. Polyps can be removed during this procedure, and biopsies are often done.

In most cases relaxation medicine will be given. For this reason you must bring someone with you who can drive you home. This person must come with you to and from the Endoscopy Suite where the test is performed. If you are to be sedated and arrive alone, the procedure will be cancelled.
