The Importance of a Proper Bowel Prep
Although no one enjoys getting a colonoscopy, it could save your life. What happens on the day before a colonoscopy may be just as important as the colon-screening test itself.
Proper prep is very important. In order to see polyps, small growths on the lining of the colon that can become cancer, or cancer, your physician must be able to see the entire wall of the colon.
If your prep is not done properly:
- The doctor may not see the insides of the colon clearly, so you would need to redo the prep and come in for a repeat colonoscopy.
- The doctor could miss a polyp during your exam — a hidden polyp with the potential to become cancer.
