Care for Infectious Diseases
Geisinger’s Infectious Disease specialists are highly skilled in identifying and treating cases in which an infection is difficult to diagnose, a high fever occurs without an apparent underlying cause or an illness doesn’t respond to expected therapies.
The Infectious Disease team is comprised of experienced, compassionate experts in this ever-changing field of medicine. We recognize that patients become frustrated or scared when they don’t feel well and the answers are not obvious.
We’re dedicated to finding the underlying cause of infection, and treating your condition as safely as possible to ensure that you maintain an optimum level of health. A big part of what we do is listen — for symptoms, for concerns, for the fears of a worried family.
Fortunately, we can now use a wide range of preventive and therapeutic regimens once an accurate diagnosis has been made. Whether your condition is a single incidence or an ongoing or recurring problem, we monitor your health very carefully.
The Infectious Disease team also offers a comprehensive travel medicine service, and works to monitor evolving infections and concern on a local, national and international level.
What Does H1N1 Flu Mean To You?
The novel H1N1 virus has caused concern internationally, and is continuing to cause illness, hospitalizations and even some deaths in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control. Geisinger’s Infectious Disease specialists continue to monitor the situation, as does the CDC. The Infectious Disease clinic does not offer the H1N1 vaccine at this time. Please see our Travel Medicine section for more information on countries that may be experiencing much higher incidences of the H1N1 virus.
