Run fast. Jump long. Climb high. Play hard. Every child should enjoy such carefree activities. And every parent wants to make sure their children have the best opportunities to do so.  That's why families in Central and Northeast Pennsylvania rely on the experience and expertise of our physicians who specialize in orthopaedic care for children.

Whether children are injured during sports, born with a medical condition or develop problems as they grow, their bodies require expert care. Our specialists treat a wide range of conditions, for newborns through teens. And we make sure each child receives the right treatment and rehabilitation to get him or her back in action - at home or at school.

We treat the full spectrum of orthopaedic conditions, including:

  • Disorders that affect the muscles
  • Deformities of the spine, including scoliosis
  • Legs and arms that are of different lengths
  • Conditions caused by injuries and accidents
  • Club foot
  • “Pigeon toes,” when the toes point inward
  • Other complex conditions involving the arms and legs

Dominick (2005)

Dominick came to Janet Weis Children's Hospital with a unique problem: his right leg was about an inch and a half shorter than his left. Surgeons lengthened his leg through a complex operation, which was followed by along process of pulling the bone apart to create room for new growth. A team effort from the surgeons, his parents -- and Dominick himself -- made the procedure successful, and has allowed Dominick to continue his acting and musical pursuits.
