Cochlear implants can improve hearing for some children

A cochlear implant is a medical device for the ear(s) that helps people to hear sounds. Our specialists offer this popular and effective treatment for children with certain types of hearing loss. During surgery, physicians implant the device into the inner ear and under the skin behind the ear.

The Janet Weis Children’s Hospital Cochlear Implant Team works closely with the child and family to determine if a child could benefit from a cochlear implant and to assist him or her after an implant. This team of specialists includes:

  • Audiologist
  • Otolaryngologist
  • Psychologist
  • Speech and language therapist
  • Social worker
