The Geisinger Cerebrovascular Center brings together a coordinated, multidisciplinary team that includes board-certified neurologists, neurosurgeons; neurointerventionalists, diagnostic neuroradiologists; intensivists; neuroanesthesiologists and stroke rehabilitation specialists. Many are members of the American Heart Association's Stroke Council, and serve on panels establishing national stroke treatment guidelines.

The Center's specialists are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. A multidisciplinary, Rapid-Response Stroke Team can be assembled within minutes at Geisinger Medical Center or Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Both institutions are equipped with the diagnostic tools needed to quickly access stroke, including computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, digital subtraction angiography, transcranial Doppler and duplex ultrasound.

Quality service

Geisinger's Cerebrovascular Center staff are dedicated to providing excellent service to their patients. Patient satisfaction scores reflect the high level of confidence our patients have in the care they receive. Our goal is to work closely with referring physicians to provide state-of-the-art, cost-efficient care for patients with cerebrovascular disorders and to return patients to their primary physicians as soon as possible.

Second opinions are provided for difficult cerebrovascular problems, such as complicated vascular malformations, deep-seated aneurysms, borderline endarterectomies, complex strokes where medical management is uncertain or any case requiring neurointerventional radiologists' skills. Geisinger physicians and scientists have gained wide recognition for major contributions to the understanding of hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, hyper-cholesterolemia, blood clotting mechanisms and other factors related to cerebrovascular disease.

Follow-up with referring physicians

Over the course of a patient's treatment at Geisinger, the Center's specialists communicate promptly to referring physicians. Referring physicians receive a discharge summary within two weeks. Questions are welcome at any time.

Continuity of care

Patients with multiple medical problems benefit from Geisinger's multi-specialty group practice environment, where specialists in different disciplines communicate about their patients and collaborate to provide the best and most appropriate care.
