Time to Act

The shorter the time from the start of a stroke to treatment, the better the chances of recovery. At Geisinger, we make the most of that time.

The Geisinger Stroke Progam has won national recognition for its high standard of stroke care. The rapid diagnosis and treatment you’ll receive at our certified primary stroke center provide the best opportunity for your recovery.

Our fellowship-trained neurologists and neurosurgeons perform the most advanced techniques in stroke treatment and care. That same Geisinger expertise is available to Astroke patients across the region through online consultation with rural hospital emergency rooms.

Think F.A.S.T.

Stroke happens when a blood vessel (or artery) clogs, cutting off the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the brain. If you think someone is having a stroke, think F.A.S.T:

F = Face
Ask the person to smile.
Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arm
Ask the person to raise both arms.
Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech
Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence.
Does the speech sound slurred or strange?

T = Time
If you observe any of these signs, call 911 or get to the nearest hospitalA immediately.
