The Geisinger HealthSouth Regional Amputee Center offers a full continuum of care that begins before surgery, and supports you during surgery and throughout the rehabilitation process. You may not need every level of care we have to offer, but you’ll find comfort in knowing that comprehensive services are available to you during every step of your care.
Amputee Center
Director of Geisinger Health South Amputee Center, John Parenti, MD, explains the dynamic relationship between Geisinger and Health South that affords amputee patients long, productive lives following amputee procedures.
Your care begins with a pre-surgery consultation, from a physical therapist who specializes in working with amputees. This will help you address your initial concerns and questions and prepare you for your surgery. The surgery is performed at Geisinger Medical Center by a Geisinger physician who is highly trained and experienced in amputation. After surgery, you’ll receive all of the information and guidance you need to care for your wound and properly prepare for rehabilitation.
Your care team may include:
- Orthopaedic surgeon
- Vascular surgeon
- Plastic and reconstructive surgeon
- Cancer specialist (oncologist)
- Endocrinologist, for patients with diabetes
- Internal medicine
- Psychology and Psychiatry
- Physical therapist
- Occupational therapist
- Social worker/care manager
