Pediatric cardiology

Pediatric Cardiology doctors and staff provide diagnosis and care of congenital and acquired heart disease in fetuses, newborns, children and adolescents. They also care for congenital heart disease patients who have reached adulthood.

Initial consultation services are provided at the request of primary care physicians or other health care providers. Pediatric Cardiology offers a full array of diagnostic capabilities in addition to clinical consultation. In concert with anesthesia and cardiothoracic surgery, the department undertakes all types of surgical procedures for both palliation and definitive repair of congenital and acquired cardiac defects. Board-certified pediatric cardiologists are available for consultation in Danville and in many local communities across Pennsylvania.

Specialized services include

  • Heart murmur evaluation
  • Congenital heart defect echocardiography
  • Electrocardiography (EKG) testing and interpretation
  • Fetal echocardiography for the early diagnosis, planning, and treatment of congenital heart disease and rhythm disorders in the fetus
  • Transesophageal echocardiography for detailed imaging of heart structures
  • Cardiac MRI
  • Exercise testing
  • Cardiovascular sports evaluation
  • Syncope (fainting) evaluation and treatment
  • Chest pain evaluation and treatment
  • 24 hour Holter and 30-day event EKG monitoring
  • Electrophysiologic evaluation and therapeutic interventions, such as radio-frequency ablation and pacemakers, for pediatric cardiac dysrhythmias
  • Evaluation and management of children with high blood pressure or high cholesterol
  • Pediatric cardiac catheterization, including interventional catheterizations such as balloon valvuloplasty, angioplasty, and now transcatheter repair of atrial septal defects.
  • Management of congenital heart disease patients who have reached adulthood.
