Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Geisinger Outpatient Physician Clinics

When your physical condition does not require the facilities or services of a full rehabilitation hospital setting, you may be treated by a Geisinger physiatrist at one of our outpatient clinics, conveniently located throughout the area.

Physiatrists are doctors who specialize in rehabilitation medicine. They are trained to treat the whole person, paying attention to the function and condition of the body as one organic whole, not just to a particular organ, extremity or other body part.

A physiatrist works with a team of medical specialists, nurses and therapists to restore as much function and independence to the patient as possible and, depending on the particular condition, can often help a patient avoid surgery and manage acute and chronic pain.

Physiatrists are especially attuned to the needs of patients who are dealing with:

• Amputations
• Arthritis
• Back, knee or shoulder problems and other musculoskeletal disorders
• Effects of cancer treatment
• Lung conditions
• Multiple sclerosis and other neuromuscular or movement disorders
• Spinal cord injury
• Sports injuries
