Inpatient Rehabilitation at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, a campus of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, provides a higher level of care for patients whose injury or conditions are better served within a 24/7 acute rehabilitation setting. This unit was recently renovated and features state-of-the art equipment and a spacious, comfortable environment.

Patients receive therapy an average of three hours per day, five to seven days per week, from a multidisciplinary team including physiatrists, rehabilitation nurses, and certified physical, occupational and speech therapists working together to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Social workers and psychological counseling are available to help patients and their families cope with obstacles and maintain motivation for progress.

  • Bowel and bladder programs
  • Diabetes management assistance
  • Edema and lymphedema therapy
  • Family and patient education
  • Functional retraining
  • Gait training
  • Group therapy

  • Post-surgical scar management and desensitization
  • Recreational and social activities strength training

The facilities are equipped with a complete, one-bedroom apartment to help ensure patients can navigate the essentials of home life. The apartment includes a living area, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and washer/dryer. The unit also features private and semiprivate rooms, a dining and activities room, bathing facilities, a gymnasium for therapy and private consultation offices.
