Dr. Drinis treats a wide variety of pelvic surgical problems.  She has focused her interests on various new developments in pelvic floor reconstruction. She offers a vast array of minimally invasive treatments for pelvic floor defects and urinary incontinence.

Under the guidance of Dr. Rukstalis, she has incorporated Robotics into pelvic floor reconstruction. She has explored and incorporated various biomaterials and synthetics in pelvic floor reconstruction. She assists in resident training of adult male and female pelvic and perineal anatomy. Her teaching efforts encompass the pathophysiology of pelvic prolapse and stress incontinence, the evaluation of patients with incontinence and pelvic prolapse, the evaluation and classification of overactive bladder disorders, conservative treatments for incontinence and prolapse, pharmacotherapy for overactive bladder and neurogenic bladders and the surgical management of stress incontinence and pelvic prolapse.

She has explored the application of pubovaginal slings, midurethral slings- retropubic and transobturator approaches, retropubic suspensions and periurethral bulking agents. She teaches residents the planning, performance and avoidance of complications during pelvic floor reconstruction. She has incorporated the performance and evaluation of complex testing modalities for the assessment of various symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction, including complex videourodynamics, cystoscopy, tissue and muscular assessment and quality of life assessment. She has applied reconstruction to the anterior and posterior vaginal wall compartments.

Her interests also include the prevention, identification and treatment of pelvic infections. She has applied her interest in the evaluation, diagnosis and surgical management of complex vesicovaginal fistulas and urethral diverticulums. She addresses and manages neurological injury in patients who have undergone prior pelvic surgery. Her therapy protocols incorporate both biofeedback and physiotherapy for various pelvic floor voiding and pain disorders. She provides a spectrum of surgical options including, robotic-assisted retropubic operations, tension-free urethral slings, transobturator slings and bulking agents for the management of female stress urinary incontinence. Sacral neuromodulation (InterStim) has been applied to the management of adult female and male pelvic floor dysfunction.

She performs the workup and management of patients with neurogenic voiding dysfunction. She has applied current pharmacotherapy and intravesical Botox application for the management of overactive bladder disorders. She addresses transvaginal hormonal replacement therapy and its role in female urinary tract infections, prolapse, incontinence, bladder and pelvic floor disorders and female pelvic pain syndromes.

Dr. Drinis has integrated physical examination, non-invasive testing and urodynamic testing into her practice to improve patient care through accurate diagnosis. She provides various treatment options, via a multi-disciplinary approach, for female urinary incontinence, pelvic prolapse, interstitial cystitis and voiding dysfunction. She also addresses the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of post-operative voiding dysfunction and obstruction.

Following her two-year fellowship, under the strict guidance of Dr. Gerald Jordan, at the Devine Tidewater Center for Adult and Pediatric Genitourinary Reconstruction,  Dr. Drinis performs the evaluation, diagnosis and management of complex urethral strictures and urethral distraction injuries. She performs urethral reconstruction, with the harvesting and application of buccal free grafts and flap augmentations.

She completed her American Board Of Urology Certification in March, 2007.

Her interests also include the etiology and management of post prostatectomy incontinence, including the surgical treatment with the artifical urinary sphincter and the male perineal sling.

Dr. Drinis interests span various aspects of erectile dysfunction, including pharmacotherapy, intracavernosal injection therapy and penile prosthesis.

She address the conservative and surgical management of penile deformitiy disorders, including Peyronie’s disease, adult hypospadias and balanitis xerotica obliterans.

Dr. Drinis has written several articles for publication in her field and has presented her research during the Americal Urological Association and the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology and was presented the Basic Science Research Award by the Society of women in Urology. View her abstracts.
