Meet Our Lactation Consultant
In her 26 years at Geisinger, our Lactation Consultant has greeted hundreds of moms and babies, first as a Labor and Delivery nurse for 20 years, and now, as a board certified lactation consultant. She assists in creating the ultimate bond, that of breastfeeding mother and baby.
Her day starts in the newborn nursery, seeing all the breastfeeding mother-baby couples. She then moves to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to support mothers in learning what is important in maintaining a milk supply. She encourages tiny infants to recognize and take the breast, as premature babies often lack strong nursing reflexes.
She invites new moms to return five to eight days after leaving the hospital for extra support. This return visit consultation is unique to Geisinger, and helps sleep-deprived moms who may be unsure their babies are receiving enough nutrition.
When our Lactation Consultant can empower mom to trust her judgment and feel more comfortable, her work is done. It’s a rewarding and healthy experience for everyone concerned.
