Stages of a Woman
Geisinger’s urogynecologic specialists perform a number of studies to identify pelvic disorders like stress urge incontinence, recurring bladder infections, and painful intercourse.
The tests include
- Urodyamics — tests for bladder wall weakness that may cause leakage
- Cystoscopy — painless test where the doctor inserts a lighted scope to view the pelvic organs while the patient can view it onscreen simultaneously
- Potassium challenge — a test that measures the rate of potassium excretion in the urine
Treatments may include
- Specific exercise regimen
- Medications
- Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery for prolapsed pelvic organs (including bladder for incontinence)
