When Meghan Bennett, of Bellefonte, had a routine eye exam in kindergarten, it revealed a mass on her optic nerve. Further tests found another tumor on her pituitary gland. Although these were noncancerous tumors, Meghan needed to be followed by the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department. The tumors continued to grow — and because of their locations, they could not be removed surgically. Meghan underwent a year of chemotherapy to shrink the tumors and has been healthy ever since.

Donations to Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger have helped support Camp Dost, a program of the Ronald McDonald House of Danville. Meghan participated in Camp Dost for five years, giving her the opportunity to build relationships with kids dealing with the same kind of illness and treatments as she had. Donations also funded Child Life Services, which provided activities for Meghan during her 4-hour outpatient chemotherapy treatments.
