Geisinger Community Medical Center
Understanding – and meeting - our community’s needs
Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) in Scranton is Lackawanna County’s most complete healthcare facility, offering many services that are not available anywhere else locally. Since 2015, Geisinger has invested more than $200 million in upgrades, renovations and new facilities at GCMC. Our goal is to continually expand clinical and community services across a wide range of disciplines, always with the most immediate needs of Scranton area residents in mind. Today, with many nationally recognized, award-winning specialty areas and caregivers and modern facilities,
GCMC delivers virtually every type of care that area families in northeast Pennsylvania will ever need.
The 2018 community health needs assessment identified the following priorities across all Geisinger’s service areas: Access to care; behavioral health (including substance abuse and mental health strategies); and chronic disease prevention and management (with a focus on increasing healthy habits).
Understanding and anticipating the needs of the people of Lackawanna County has led to many upgrades and expansions at GCMC. These include: the development of a multidisciplinary cancer services (including new providers, a local mammography center and expanded infusion services); and the establishment of a new multi-specialty clinic that offers nutrition, podiatry, wound care, sports medicine, pulmonary medicine, infectious disease, and other services. The SpringBoard Health initiative, which began as Springboard Healthy Scranton, continues to grow, working with local communities and community groups to alleviate chronic medical conditions, eliminate preventable cancers and other diseases and address overall socioeconomic health.
More detail about GCMC programs, as well as a comprehensive list of many action items that resulted from what we learned in the most recent CHNA are contained in the reports below:
