DANVILLE, PA -- Geisinger officially welcomed 110 new physicians to its graduate medical training program beginning July 1. The new physicians come from all over the globe including the U.S., Puerto Rico, Pakistan, Iran, Dominica, St. Maarten, Nepal, Cayman Islands and Granada.

“Geisinger’s Medical Education programs prepare students and residents to deliver and manage care using both the traditional physician methods of one-on-one patient-physician interaction and the breakthrough processes that are propelling Geisinger integrated health care delivery forward,” said Linda M. Famiglio, M.D., FAAP, Geisinger’s Chief Academic Officer.

Residents attended new staff orientation at the Henry Hood Center and were fitted for white coats, signifying their career transition into doctors. Later, they were introduced to the community at a picnic held at Frosty Valley Country Club in Danville. There, 36 area business owners set up tables to introduce the group to the various options for shopping, dining and leisure activities that are offered in the region.

The residents will work in specialties throughout Geisinger, including anesthesiology, neurological surgery, clinical psychology, family medicine, general surgery – Northeast, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatric dentistry, emergency medicine, internal medicine/pediatrics, neurology, OB/GYN, oral and maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, pediatrics, podiatry and psychiatry.

After completing four years of medical school, the residents begin training programs ranging from 3 to 7 years. See the attached list for names of the residents and specialties.
