New Geisinger CEO reaches out to patients
DANVILLE, PA -- New Geisinger president and chief executive officer, David Feinberg, M.D., has enjoyed meeting the staff at most Geisinger hospitals and clinic locations throughout the system. But what he really likes is to meet and talk with patients.
"I want to hear what patients have to say about the care they have received at Geisinger," Dr. Feinberg said.
On Tuesday, Dr. Feinberg visited with patients at Geisinger's Hospital for Advanced Medicine. There he met Johanna Gonzalez and her boyfriend, Jerome Charles of Lock Haven. On May 4, Gonzalez and Charles were in their attic apartment when the building caught on fire.
After they made sure that their pets and other family members made it out of the building safely, Gonzalez and Charles stood on the balcony to make their escape. However, before they could do so, the balcony collapsed. Charles, a former Lock Haven University football player, had only minor injuries, but Gonzalez fractured part of her spine and broke her ankle.
"That sounds horrific," Dr. Feinberg said after hearing their story. He asked Gonzalez, who works at a truck stop in Mill Hall, if she had any insurance problems, and then handed her his business card with his cell number. "I want to know if you have any questions or problems with your insurance," Dr. Feinberg said.
Gonzalez had surgery to repair her fractured ankle and is awaiting surgery for her spine.
