Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

Geisinger patients can take better control of their health with the system’s new enrollment option for the Text U 4 Better Health messaging program. The program allows patients to sign up to receive text messages for appointment reminders, weight management tips and diabetes care.

With the text message appointment reminders, patients can confirm, cancel or reschedule their appointments. In addition, those interested in weight management assistance can opt in for tips and tools from Geisinger’s Center for Nutrition and Weight Management. The tool also helps diabetic patients who can sign up to receive motivational and informative messages developed by Geisinger’s Certified Diabetes Educators about managing blood glucose, diet and exercise.

“The Text U 4 Better Health program is used by over 300,000 Geisinger patients to help them stay connected, motivated and on track to a healthier lifestyle,” says Chanin Wendling, director of Geisinger in Motion. “We are excited to offer an easier way to enroll in this program.”

To enroll in one of the text message programs, login to, click on the Medical Record tab at the top of the screen, select “Text Messaging Programs” under Medical Tools and click the pencil icon next to the desired program.

“Enrollment is easy,” says Wendling, “and, once enrolled, Geisinger patients gain access to additional features such as test results and their provider’s notes to better manage their health.”

After enrolling, a green check mark will appear next to the program to indicate successful enrollment. Patients can edit their information at any time.

“Leveraging consumer technology to help patients more easily manager their health is a priority for Geisinger Health System. Options coming soon include medication reminders and clinic closure messages,” says Wendling.
