ADMI forum to address challenging behaviors and skill deficits in school-aged children
MILTON, PA – During April’s Autism Awareness Month, Geisinger’s Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute (ADMI) is providing a forum to address challenging behaviors and skill deficits in school-aged children. The forum will allow participants to ask questions and discuss their experiences and particular challenges.
“Bring it On: A forum to address challenging behaviors and skill deficits in school-aged children,” will take place on Monday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the CSIU Conference and Learning Center, 90 Lawton Lane, Milton. It’s part of the free “From the Clinic to the Classroom” series, which is presented by ADMI in partnership with the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU).
Cora Taylor (right), Ph.D., a pediatric psychologist, ADMI; and Barbara Haas-Givler (left), M.Ed., BCBA, director of education & behavioral outreach, ADMI, will be presenters who will also facilitate the forum discussion.
“Participants in our ‘From the Clinic to Classroom’ series are sometimes hesitant to speak up during the Q&A portion of the training. However, one person’s concern is almost always shared by other audience members,” Haas-Givler said. “All attendees have much to gain from sharing experiences and strategies to help support their students with special needs.”
Dr. Taylor and Haas-Givler encourage participants to submit questions in advance of the forum. They will then address the questions and discuss best practices for dealing with the most challenging issues. They ask participants to submit questions by April 6 to bahaasgivler@geisinger.edu about the following topics:
- Challenging behaviors
- Social skills
- Executive functioning deficits
Questions will also be taken during the forum.
