SCRANTON, PA -- Geisinger’s Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute (ADMI) is teaming up with the University of Scranton’s Panuska College of Professional Studies and Friendship House to offer a free training series for local educators. The series is slated to occur quarterly, and kicks off in November.

“From the Clinic to the Classroom: An Update on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Students with Special Needs,” will take place on Thursday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the University of Scranton’s Edward R. Leahy Jr. Hall, Room 235, 237 Jefferson Ave., Scranton.

The program will feature presentations by neurodevelopmental pediatrician and ADMI Medical Director Thomas D. Challman, MD, FAAP; licensed genetic counselor and ADMI Associate Director Brenda M. Finucane, MS, LGC; and ADMI speech-language pathologist Marissa Mitchel, MS, CCC-SLP. Topics will include:

  • Therapies and treatment options for children with developmental disabilities
  • Genetic syndromes associated with physical, cognitive and behavioral problems
  • Strategies for helping children with complex communication needs
