Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

WILKES-BARRE, PA --
Michael R. Marvin, M.D., FACS, has joined Geisinger as director of transplantation and liver surgery for Geisinger Health System. Dr. Marvin will oversee the care of transplant patients, as well as non-transplant patients with liver and hepatobiliary tumors across Geisinger’s service area. He will perform liver and kidney transplants and other highly specialized procedures, including laparoscopic liver resections and repair of bile duct injuries at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, and offer consultations at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, and Geisinger–Scenery Park in State College.

Dr. Marvin previously served as chief, division of transplantation, director of liver transplantation, and associate professor of surgery in the Hiram C. Polk Jr., M.D., Department of Surgery at the University of Louisville, and director of transplantation at Jewish Hospital, also in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Marvin graduated summa cum laude from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and then obtained is medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He then completed all of his general surgical, oncology research, and transplant training at the New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia University Medical Center).

Dr. Marvin is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. Dr. Marvin is also an accomplished researcher, having published more than 50 articles and multiple book chapters. He serves as an editorial reviewer for the American Journal of Transplantation, Surgery, and the Annals of Surgery, among others, and has served on multiple national transplant-related committees.
