Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

SCRANTON, Pa. –The Robert Y. Moffat Family Charitable Trust recently donated $100,000 to Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC)’s Cancer Center to support patient care, research, education and equipment needs within the Cancer Center.

A dedication plaque is displayed in the center’s family waiting room in honor of the donation, which was presented by Yvette Wentland, trustee of the Moffat Trust.

“We are deeply grateful to Mrs. Wentland and the Trust for this generous gift and support of our Cancer Center,” said Anthony Aquilina, D.O., regional president for Geisinger Northeast. “This donation will help us continue to bring high quality, comprehensive cancer care to our community and have an impact in our ongoing fight against cancer.”

Established in honor of late Lackawanna County philanthropist Robert Moffat, the Moffat Trust has supported numerous programs in northeast Pennsylvania.

“Cancer touched his life personally,” said Mrs. Wentland. “To have this resource and support for those going through a cancer diagnosis in our community is something I feel he would have wanted.”

GCMC’s Cancer Center, which opened in the fall of 2016, offers state-of-the-art, comprehensive cancer care and treatment within one convenient location. A world class staff of physicians and specialists - including hematologists/oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, nurse navigators and social workers- takes a team approach, focusing on communication and collaboration, addressing every aspect of a patient’s care to increase chances for the best possible outcome. The center is nationally accredited by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a branch of the American College of Surgeons that recognizes quality and clinical expertise.
