It’s not hard to recall a time when a nurse helped you or a loved one feel better. When we need compassionate and professional care, nurses more than answer the call. In doctor’s offices, hospitals and anywhere there are people in need, nurses play a critical role in the healing process.
Nursing is an amazing and rewarding profession. It is a lifetime of learning and provides limitless opportunities for growth. It places us into life’s most trying – and miraculous – situations. It demands us to be compassionate and strong, flexible and dependable, loyal but adaptable. Each day, our acts of courage and kindness remind me how nurses are extraordinary, and how I am fortunate and proud to call them my friends and colleagues.
Providing compassionate and competent care is the root of all nursing practice. Today’s nurses are at the center of patient care teams, providing highly advanced and personalized medical care. Nurses earn advanced degrees; lead investigative research; develop medical applications; educate the next generation of caregivers; and become administrative leaders for our nation’s most advanced health systems.
During National Nurses Week, May 6-12, please join Geisinger in thanking the nurses in your life for following their calling to care. And if you know young adults who are interested in making positive differences in people’s lives, every day, please urge them to consider careers in nursing.
