Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

LEWISTOWN, Pa. – Geisinger Lewistown Auxiliary donated toward the installation of a free-standing Mamava Lactation Suite, which offers nursing patients, employees and visitors a safe, clean, functional private environment for breastfeeding or pumping. The suite is located at the Surgical Entrance, 4th Floor of the hospital in Lewistown.
While all Geisinger locations are breastfeeding-friendly and mothers can continue to breastfeed anywhere, the new 32-square-foot suite provides a more private option for those who want it. It has adequate space for breastfeeding and pumping and is roomy enough to accommodate additional children.
Mothers will need to download the Mamava App on their smartphones and turn on their Bluetooth to unlock the room. Geisinger staff are also available to assist with unlocking the room.
Features include:

  • A fold-down table to comfortably situate a breast pump
  • A power outlet for breast pump
  • Space for luggage and/or a stroller
  • Food-safe, easily cleaned materials
  • Soft lighting and mirror
  • Fixture with mirror and clean-up supplies
  • Occupied lock, with custom lock options

The pod doesn’t include a sink or changing station. This suite is designed for food prep but not bathroom functions. Changing a baby in the suite would make for a less than agreeable environment for the next user.
Geisinger celebrates breastfeeding and believe that mothers have the right to feed their babies however and wherever they choose. This lactation suite gives mothers the choice and access to a comfortable dignified space wherever they go.
Geisinger Lewistown auxiliary works with the Geisinger Lewistown Hospital leadership to promote a positive patient care environment. Through their volunteer services and fundraising efforts, the auxiliaries support the mission of the hospital by promoting, restoring and improving the health of the surrounding community. In the last fiscal year, the Geisinger Lewistown Auxiliary raised more than $47,000 through diverse fundraising projects through which efforts such as the installation of this Mamava lactation suite is made possible.
