Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital welcomes new surgeon

JERSEY SHORE, Pa. – Geisinger has welcomed a new surgeon to Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital and nearby clinics. Board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeon Akpene Gbegnon, M.D., is providing care for patients 16 years old and older for general and specialized surgeries.
Dr. Gbegnon performs breast, colorectal, gallbladder, hernia, laparoscopy and skin surgeries, including colon repair, hernia repair, lumpectomy, mastectomy and biopsies. Dr. Gbegnon earned her medical degree from the University of California San Francisco, completed her surgical residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and completed her fellowship training at Geisinger.
“I am thrilled to practice evidence-based medicine at Geisinger,” Dr. Gbegnon said. “I educate my patients and guide them to making informed decisions to improve their health and quality of life.”
