Geisinger president and CEO, Dr. Jaewon Ryu is recognized as one of the most 100 influential people by Modern Healthcare
DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger is proud to announce that Dr. Jaewon Ryu, its president and CEO, was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare for 2021.
This prestigious recognition program acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact. Dr. Ryu was included among some of the most influential leaders in the industry, including President Joe Biden; Dr. Anthony Fauci, director, chief medical advisor to the president; and CEOs from leading healthcare organizations such as Northwell Health, Intermountain Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, CVS Health, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Pfizer Biopharmaceuticals Group, Moderna and more.
“Even through incredibly challenging circumstances related to the pandemic, our teams at Geisinger have accomplished so much over the past year. And recognitions like these are always much more representative of such team efforts than they are of any one person’s work,” said Dr. Ryu. “Because of our teams, I am truly proud and honored to lead this organization.”
The last year has been challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic. Geisinger faced many challenges, but its structure as an integrated system helped it to continue innovating during a pandemic.
Over the last year, Geisinger leveraged existing innovations like Geisinger at Home to administer vaccines, keep people out of the hospital, and allow safe recovery from COVID for patients after COVID discharge. These COVID at Home programs helped more than 16,000 patients while Geisinger also administered more than 2,000 monoclonal antibody infusions in communities across central and northeastern Pennsylvania.
In 2021, Geisinger celebrated landmark milestones in our communities like Geisinger Medical Center Muncy’s ribbon cutting and breaking ground on the Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Northeast, a joint venture with Acadia Healthcare Company. Meanwhile, Geisinger Lewistown Hospital and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center received 5-Star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in 2021. Making better health easier for the community, Geisinger Jersey Shore and Lewistown hospitals also received Level IV Trauma Center accreditation by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation, adding important resources for those communities.
