PORT MATILDA, Pa. – Geisinger Healthplex State College has been named to Newsweek’s 2024 list of America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers. This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., recognizing the healthplex’s quality of care, performance data and peer recommendations relative to its competition in Pennsylvania.

“Our teams’ commitment to our communities and to providing our patients with exceptional care is underscored by this elite national distinction,” said A.J. Hartsock, associate vice president for Geisinger’s western region. “Because it is only granted to organizations that meet performance and peer recommendation criteria, being selected is a true honor and proves Geisinger is providing the very best care to its patients.”

The ambulatory surgery center at Geisinger Healthplex State College allows people to have specific procedures performed that usually don't require hospitalization. Patients can have the procedure and then be back home quickly, often the same day. There are more than 5,000 Medicare-certified ambulatory surgical centers around the country in all the major specialties, including orthopaedic, cardiac, eye, spinal surgery and more.

In addition to a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery and endoscopy center, pain therapy and pain procedure rooms that complete 12,000 procedures each year, Geisinger Healthplex State College hosts expanded clinical areas for cardiology, GI/GI nutrition, pediatrics, women’s health, pharmacy, imaging, lab, urology and pulmonology, among others. Located on 52 acres off the I-99 interchange near State College, the healthplex first opened in August of 2008. As Geisinger focuses on making better health easier and more accessible for patients in Centre County and beyond, plans are in place to expand the clinic to offer specialty services and increased appointment availability, bringing a comprehensive spectrum of services to patients and the community. Facility expansion work will begin soon, with an estimated completion toward the end of 2024.
