Free community event provides tools to spot deception

SCRANTON - From phishing scams to Ponzi schemes, our world brims with deception. In their book Nobody’s Fool, psychologists Daniel Simons and Christopher Chabris show us how to avoid being taken in. They describe the key habits of thinking and reasoning that serve us well most of the time but make us vulnerable—like our tendency to accept what we see, stick to our commitments, and overvalue precision and consistency.

Now the community is invited to hear author Christopher Chabris, PhD, a cognitive and behavioral scientist and professor of neurology at Geisinger College of Health Sciences, talk about his book and his findings at a free event at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine on May 14.

The evening will provide memorable maxims and practical tools you can use to spot deception before it’s too late. As a New York Times book reviewer describes it, "Rarely do you find such practical advice combined with such delicious entertainment!"

Tuesday, May 14, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
