Geisinger earns American College of Radiology® reaccreditation
Radiology program has been ACR accredited since 2018
Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain.
“Being an ACR® accredited health system means that we are meeting the highest standards put forth for quality and safety in radiation oncology treatment, while keeping our patients top of mind and offering them better care closer to home,” said Heath Mackley, M.D., Radiation Oncology department chair, Geisinger.
The ACR® is the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with over 700 accredited sites and 30 years of accreditation experience. The ACR® gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety and is awarded only to facilities meeting specific requirements-based Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR® after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
