Geisinger receives trauma reaccreditations
Trauma centers are specialized hospitals, staffed and equipped to provide immediate, complex critical care for patients with severe or life-threatening injuries. Geisinger’s trauma programs rely on emergency room staff, Geisinger and local emergency medical services providers, Geisinger Life Flight and first responders across our communities to provide around-the-clock care.
“These accreditations mean that our patients often located in rural communities can continue to receive the most specialized care closer to home,” said Denise Torres, M.D., chair of Geisinger’s Surgery Institute. “The accreditations speak to the tremendous work our physicians, nurses and staff continue to deliver to our patients.”
To receive their designations, each hospital underwent a review process by the PTSF that included reviews of its resources, capabilities and care for patients with traumatic injuries.
“Having multiple hospitals across the system accredited shows our commitment to the health of our patients and our local communities,” said Kimberly Rohrer, trauma operations director, Geisinger. “Our trauma teams are actively in the community educating members on prevention and safety through Geisinger supported programs, including Stop the Bleed and bicycle safety.”
Geisinger hospitals have the following accreditations:
Level I:
• Geisinger Medical Center, Danville
• Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre
Level II:
• Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton
• Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, Danville
Level: IV
• Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, Jersey Shore
• Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown
Geisinger Medical Center Muncy is currently in the process of pursuing their Level IV accreditation.
