SNMA is the oldest and largest organization dedicated to students who are underrepresented in medicine

SCRANTON – Geisinger School of Medicine will host the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Region VIII Medical Education Conference in Scranton on Jan. 18.

“We are excited by Geisinger’s first opportunity to host the oldest and largest organization dedicated to students who are underrepresented in medicine,” said Valencia P. Walker, MD, MPH, vice dean for health equity and inclusion at Geisinger College of Health Sciences. “We welcome students and other attendees to experience what makes us uniquely Geisinger in our commitment to our communities and our advocacy for better health.”

“This year’s conference theme, ‘Navigating Health Equity and Justice as Physician Advocates,’ inspires us to engage with each other and explore how we advance health and justice for our patients,” Dr. Walker said. “Students can also strengthen their professional networks and gain valuable skills to use when caring for all families living in our regional communities.”
