Danville, PA – Geisinger received funding from the West Penn Energy Fund to help with another energy savings project. Geisinger is one of the most energy-efficient hospital systems in Pennsylvania, and building healthier communities while reducing the total cost of delivering health care are core to its mission. Saving energy ultimately saves lives by contributing to a healthier living environment for patients, members and others in our communities.

Geisinger Healthplex State College, formerly known as Gray's Woods, is expanding to enhance health care services in Centre County. The expansion includes a two-floor addition that will house existing specialties and services such as family practice, imaging services, orthopaedics and pediatrics. The West Penn Energy Fund award will be used to fund a solar energy project at the healthplex.

“We are grateful to the West Penn Energy Fund for this generous grant, which will enable us to continue our energy-saving initiatives at Geisinger,” said William Gruber, senior director of facility operations.

The project involves installing a 325-kilowatt dc solar grid system on the facility’s roof, capable of providing 347,429 kilowatt-hours to the healthplex annually. Relieving this energy usage from the grid will decrease peak demand and help keep rates lower over time. Decreased energy usage also reduces air pollution, improving the comfort and health of visitors to Geisinger Healthplex State College.
