LEWISTOWN, Pa – Volunteers show empathy, compassion and generosity to Geisinger’s patients — and they’re a gift to our whole community.

To recognize the exceptional care they provide, Volunteer Services at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital recently hosted a recognition luncheon honoring the organization’s volunteers who are from the Juniata River Valley and beyond.

“I’m filled with immense gratitude for the dedication and compassion you have shown to our patients and staff,” said Tammy Anderer, CRNP, PhD, chief administrative officer of Geisinger’s north-central and western regions. “Their selfless service has been a beacon of hope and comfort to many, and it’s with appreciation that I extend thanks to them.”

The 52 volunteers — 41 adult and 11 junior — completed 5,456 hours of work in 2024. This volunteerism has made the quality of care our teams provide complete, providing a warm environment for our patients, visitors and employees.

“Whether our volunteers offered a listening ear, helped with daily tasks, greeted our visitors or simply shared a smile, their efforts made a significant impact on the lives of those we serve,” said Kylle White, manager of volunteer services at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.

Wanda Spigelmyer, Willie Jaen and Donald Manbeck received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. The award honors people whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action. Spigelmyer also received the Distinguished Service Award after reaching 10,000 hours of volunteer service in 2024.

“We hope our volunteers feel appreciated and valued and know that, without their contributions, Geisinger could not provide the services we do to our community,” White said.
