Scranton, PA — Geisinger College of Health Sciences will host How to Make a Healthy Lifestyle Work for You on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. 

This free event coincides with National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15) and is designed to support Latino community members in making sustainable, healthy lifestyle changes.

Attendees will receive expert guidance on developing personalized wellness strategies without resorting to fad diets or one-size-fits-all solutions. The goals are to:

Empower people with simple, adaptable wellness strategies that align with cultural values and everyday life
Raise awareness of diabetes risk among Latino Americans and emphasize prevention through sustainable lifestyle changes
Promote health equity, offering guidance in an inclusive, accessible setting

Why this matters: Health disparities in the Latino community
Hispanic adults are 60% more likely than non-Hispanic White adults to be diagnosed with diabetes.
Over half of Hispanic adults are predicted to develop Type 2 diabetes.
Hispanic/Latino people are about 50% more likely to die from diabetes or liver disease compared to non-Hispanic Whites.
