LEWISTOWN, Pa. – Geisinger recently welcomed 80 high school students from eight school districts across Mifflin, Juniata, Snyder and Centre counties to its annual Aspirations in Medicine and Healthcare Initiatives (AiM HI) event at the Geisinger School of Nursing in Lewistown.

AiM HI is an entry-level career pathway program designed to give students hands-on exposure to a variety of health care roles through interactive workshops and career panels. During the event, students explored fields such as nursing, ultrasound, behavioral health, Life Flight and interventional radiology, while also learning about career paths in medicine, allied health, IT and more.

“We were honored and excited to host area students for this unique event,” said AJ Hartsock, associate vice president of operations for Geisinger Lewistown Hospital. “By connecting students with real-world experiences and health care professionals, AiM HI helps to build a pipeline into health care careers and inspires the next generation of caregivers.”

“It was good to look at all the careers available within the medical field so that I can explore my options. I’ve learned a lot today,” said Bree Fultz, a sophomore at Mifflin County High School who’s interested in radiology.

Jersey Poeta, a junior from Mifflin County High School and aspiring emergency or labor and delivery nurse, said, “I enjoyed the nursing session the most because it was so interactive. I could tell the nurses who taught us work together as a team and I loved seeing their bond.”

Students can register for the AiM HI program through their local public schools. School representatives may call 570-271-6230 or email tsmcdowell1@geisinger.edu for details.
