American Diabetes Association renews accreditation of Geisinger diabetes education program
The ADA’s Education Recognition Program certificate means Geisinger’s educational services meet the national standards for diabetes self-management education and support.
“It’s been a pleasure and a privilege watching this program develop and blossom. ADA accreditation highlights the fact that our patients receive high-quality, reliable information in a manner that is tailored to their needs,” said Brian Jameson, D.O., Geisinger division chief of endocrinology. “Each year we strive to help more patients with diabetes have a higher quality of life with less interference from the disease.”
Geisinger offers in-person and virtual education sessions focusing on:
• Lifestyle changes
• Food and nutrition counseling
• Exercise plans
• Medication management
• Glucose control
• Insulin therapy
• Complication management
“Renewing this accreditation reinforces our commitment to deliver high quality, evidence based diabetes care,” said Stacy Coolbaugh, RDN, Geisinger director of clinical nutrition. “It’s a meaningful affirmation of our team’s dedication to the patients and communities we serve."
Education on managing diabetes is crucial. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Diabetes Fact Sheet, more than 40 million people in the U.S. have diabetes.
