Geisinger College to host “George Gershwin: Music and Healing"
A unique concert-lecture exploring the life, music and creative mind of the legendary composer.
The event will take place Thursday, April 9, at 6 p.m. at Geisinger College of Health Sciences, 525 Pine St., Scranton.
Richard Kogan, MD, professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and artistic director of the Weill Cornell Music and Medicine Program, headlines the evening. Dr. Kogan is internationally recognized for combining live piano performance with insights from psychiatry to explore the creative lives of great composers.
Blending music, medicine and history, the program explores how Gershwin transformed everyday sounds into timeless music and examines his creative process, offering audiences a deeper understanding of the relationship between creativity, the human mind and the healing power of music.
Admission is $40. To register or learn more, contact the Schemel Forum at 570-941-4740 or schemelforum@scranton.edu.
