DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger staff members who care for mothers and babies in the hospital recently participated in a comprehensive training program to help them become more empathetic and inclusive providers.

The program, developed by the March of Dimes, is called Awareness to Action: Implementing Respectful Maternal and Infant Healthcare Practices. It aims to help healthcare professionals recognize how assumptions and preconceptions can influence care and to apply evidence-based strategies that foster respectful, empathetic communication.

The training, made possible with support from Pampers, offered employees continuing medical education and continuing nursing education accreditation.

“Providing respectful, compassionate care is essential to improving outcomes and experiences for mothers, infants and families,” said Kim Drumgo, Chief Accessibility and Opportunity Officer. “The Awareness to Action program strengthens our teams’ ability to build trust, communicate effectively and partner with patients and families in ways that support dignity, safety and respect throughout the care journey.”
