DANVILLE, Pa. – Nathan Witteveen, Geisinger School of Medicine MD class of 2027, has received the College of American Pathologists’ (CAP) 2026 Distinguished Medical Student Award.

The national honor is given to a medical student for outstanding achievement in pathology. Witteveen was nominated by Renee Frank, MD, professor of pathology at Geisinger College of Health Sciences.

“Nathan consistently shows initiative, curiosity and meaningful engagement in pathology,” Dr. Frank said. “He seeks opportunities to learn, asks thoughtful questions and demonstrates maturity in connecting concepts. Nathan’s enthusiasm, professionalism and commitment make him an outstanding future pathologist worthy of recognition.”

The CAP award honors the student's initiative in learning about pathology and participating in pathology-related activities.

“I intend to pursue pathology because it’s a constantly evolving field that offers a broad scope of practice,” Witteveen said. “Dr. Frank’s mentorship has been instrumental in strengthening my interest in the field by encouraging my curiosity and giving me meaningful opportunities to engage more deeply with pathology.”
