Free event: Seeing Through the Smoke

Scranton, PA – As cannabis products become more widely accessible, many people are seeking reliable, evidence-based information to guide their decisions. To support informed choices, Geisinger College of Health Sciences will host Seeing Through the Smoke: Marijuana Education for Informed Decisions as part of its Third Wednesday Community Education series.

This event, open to all, will provide a comprehensive overview of cannabis use, including potential risks, benefits, and important considerations for both medical and non-medical users.

Pharmacy experts Christine Roussel, PharmD, and Julia Iskra, PharmD, will lead the session, offering insights into how cannabis interacts with the body and common medications.

Topics will include:

● An overview of Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program and current cannabis policies
● Potential drug interactions between cannabis and commonly prescribed medications such as blood thinners, cardiovascular drugs, and medications affecting brain function
● Effects of cannabis on cognition, coordination, and cardiovascular health
● Differences in THC and CBD content, dosing, and formulations across products
● How to evaluate cannabis product sources, potency, and labeling
