Geisinger’s intensive one-year Bariatric and Foregut Surgical Fellowship will immerse you in a rigorous program for advanced minimally invasive training. Our mission is to provide you with extensive operative experience and expertise in the field of bariatric and foregut surgery.
You’ll be part of a high-volume practice with a diverse patient population drawn from rural and urban areas, working with faculty mentors who treat you as a trusted colleague, and who will guide you toward increasing autonomy.
And you’ll gain experience with billing, coding and practical aspects of practice management that our fellows find valuable too.
Our bariatric program is heavily geared toward anastomotic procedures. Under the guidance of faculty mentors who are dedicated to your success, you’ll perform procedures on both laparoscopic and robotic platforms. You’ll learn a comprehensive approach to bariatric surgery that includes advanced endoscopic management of complications.
Geisinger has a strong tradition of innovation and research, and you’re expected to be part of that culture. You’ll participate in clinical outcomes research and present at the annual American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) meeting.
Upon completion of your training, you’ll qualify for the ASMBS certificate of training in bariatric surgery.
Our foregut service performs a wide range of procedures. Your training will include evaluation, diagnostic workup, operative procedures and advanced endoscopic management of complications. You’ll be expected to participate in clinical outcomes research and present at the annual Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) meeting.
When you finish your fellowship, you’ll qualify for the SAGES endoscopic certificate.
