Clinical Informatics Fellowship

Join a recognized innovator in clinical informatics and become a leader in an emerging field that uses technology to make healthcare more efficient and effective.

About us

Since our mission is to make better health easier and more accessible to everyone in the communities we serve, it’s probably not surprising that Geisinger is a leader and innovator in the field of clinical informatics.

Our two-year Clinical Informatics Fellowship has been accredited by the AGCME since 2015 — just two years after formal board certification and accredited clinical informatics fellowships were available anywhere.

Our program, which is open to all physicians who’ve completed an accredited residency in any specialty, is coordinated by Geisinger’s Division of Informatics. This team uses informatics and data analytics to improve patient experience and health outcomes. If you join us as a fellow, you’ll gain experience with four departments within the division:

  • Clinical Informatics
  • Enterprise Information Management and Strategy
  • Geisinger in Motion
  • Health Sciences Libraries

Our Clinical Informatics team is multidisciplinary, including physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and IT specialists, all working together to:

  • Rethink “the way things have always been done”
  • Embed best practices across the system
  • Apply cutting-edge technology when it can improve delivery, outcomes and patient experience

Our Enterprise Information Management and Strategy Department is a leader in the use of advanced analytics to improve our internal processes and benefit our patients. Geisinger in Motion focuses on the technology our patients use to make it easier to communicate with our providers and take better charge of their health.

And our Health Sciences Libraries are an open digital resource for journal articles, books and research, making reliable health-related information available to clinicians, researchers and the general public — because an informed healthcare consumer is a healthier consumer.

As a Geisinger clinical informatics fellow, you’ll rotate across our system, gaining experience with a wide range of clinical and health information systems, including:

  • Epic
  • Cerner
  • Multiple ancillary clinical systems
  • PACS
  • KeyHIE health information exchange

You’ll work closely with our physician and nurse informaticians, clinicians, Geisinger Health Plan team and our system leadership. And you’ll have opportunities to explore entrepreneurial aspects of health IT.

Join us for a well-rounded experience that will provide you with a solid education in clinical informatics and prepare you to be an innovative thinker, ready to play a leading role in the continuing transformation of healthcare.
