Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger President and CEO David T. Feinberg, M.D., MBA, made the top three in Modern Healthcare magazine's 2017 list of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders.

Dr. Tom Price, secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, tops the list, with Dr. John Noseworthy, president and CEO, Mayo Clinic, second; Dr. Rodney Hochman, president and CEO, Providence St. Joseph Health, fourth; and Dr. Toby Cosgrove, president and CEO, Cleveland Clinic, fifth.

Ranked third, Dr. Feinberg has moved up six spots from last year on this esteemed list of innovators who excel in community service and demonstrate reputable executive authority.

In recognizing Dr. Feinberg, Modern Healthcare wrote: “Since 2015, Dr. David Feinberg has served as CEO of Geisinger Health System, one of the nation’s' largest integrated healthcare systems, known for reinventing medical care. The 12-hospital system based in Danville, Pa., serves populations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. A longtime champion of focusing on the patient experience, Feinberg caught the industry's attention by introducing Geisinger's latest evolution of its patient services guarantee, allowing patients to request a refund based on the outcome of their experience at the organization."

Now in its 13th year, Modern Healthcare’s annual list honors physicians working in the healthcare industry who are deemed by their peers and an expert panel to be the most influential in terms of demonstrating leadership and impact.

Since becoming Geisinger’s CEO and president in May 2015, Dr. Feinberg has put the system focus on improving the patient experience. He has made it the stated goal that every Geisinger patient is treated with compassion, dignity and respect while receiving optimum care.

Towards that goal, Dr. Feinberg unveiled the health system’s most radical innovation, ProvenExperience in November 2015. The program offers refunds to patients whose expectations weren’t met based on kindness and compassion.

This is the fourth time Dr. Feinberg has been named to Modern’s Healthcare’s “50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders.”
