Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

An avid outdoorsman and former taxidermist, Joe loves to hunt, fish, and ride ATVs and motorcycles. But in 2011, the father of three and grandfather of two developed a staph infection that soon became very serious. “If I had only gone to the doctor at the first signs, I could have been treated in just six weeks,” Joe explained. The nature enthusiast believed his body would eventually heal itself, but the delay in seeking medical treatment caused his serious condition to become critical. After landing in the hospital, Joe was first placed on dialysis and then on an organ donor list for a pair of kidneys and a new liver. His loyal – and very frightened – family was by his side every step of the way. #GeisingerStories #GeisingerCaring
