“No regrets, right?” says Susan Reese Burke, self-proclaimed “health nut” and loving mother of three. After 20 years, the 48-year old, Clarks Summit native left her job as a paralegal to pursue a dream of becoming a full-time running coach and personal trainer. “The timing was right. I just ran two marathons, an ultra-marathon. I was the fittest I’d ever been and I already had clients lined up.” With the support of her family, friends and community, all signs pointed to success until a nagging pain in her lower right side wouldn’t go away. “I was in denial for a long time. I couldn’t believe that after years of exercise and eating all the right things, something could be wrong with me.” Yet in June 2016, less than a year after becoming a personal trainer, Susan found herself at Geisinger Community Medical Center with general surgeon Timothy Farrell, MD, shaking her head in disbelief as he diagnosed her with stage II colon cancer.  #GeisingerStories #ColonCancer
