101-year-old credits good genes and perseverance for longevity

“My brother always said I got all the good genes,” says Ruth Richards who was in her late 80s when the first complete human genome was sequenced. Later, in her late 90s, Ruth joined Geisinger’s MyCode Community Health Initiative. At first hesitant, Ruth signed on after her doctor explained how studying her DNA could help others live as long as her. Today at 101, Ruth is one of the oldest MyCode participants. When asked what her secret is to staying active and healthy for so long, Ruth replies: “You just have to keep going. That’s all.” And so, she has. #GeisingerStories #Genetics #MyCode
