COVID Alert PA — a new contact tracing app, created by Apple and Google and co-piloted by Geisinger — lets you know you if you’ve been in contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19.

Unlike other approaches to contact tracing, the app keeps your identity private:

  • No personal or identifying information is collected.
  • It does not track your location or use GPS technology.

Instead, it relies on the same Bluetooth technology you use to connect to your car or ear pods.

How does COVID Alert PA work?

If you receive an exposure notification, you can decide whether you want a health representative to contact you. The app includes a tool to help you keep track of your symptoms and lets you know where to find the nearest testing location.

Pennsylvania’s app will soon be interoperable with seven other states including New York, New Jersey and Delaware. That means COVID exposure there results in notification here — without downloading any additional technology.

Apps like this are already helping to reduce infections around the globe in countries like Germany, Ireland and Singapore.

Protect yourself and others by downloading COVID Alert PA today.
