Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

DANVILLE, PA – Since Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) launched its #HadEnough campaign in 2016, Perry Meadows, M.D., GHP’s medical director of government programs, has been at the forefront of the health plan’s community awareness and education effort on the opioid epidemic in Pennsylvania.

Recently, Geisinger’s Office of Government Relations presented Meadows with the 2018 Excellence in Government Advocacy Award for his numerous leadership and advocacy roles as part of #HadEnough and representing Geisinger at the state and federal level.

Established in 2010 by Geisinger’s Office of Government Relations, the Excellence in Government Advocacy Award recognizes and promotes exemplary leadership and efforts in government advocacy. The annual award honors individual and team innovation and hard work on government advocacy issues that advance Geisinger’s advocacy agenda at the local, state and/or federal level.

“The ability to provide government decision-makers timely, detailed and proven information specific to Geisinger is vital to advancing the organization’s overall strategic goals,” said Mark Reisinger, chief government relations officer at Geisinger. “Dr. Meadows has long been actively involved on an advocacy level for Geisinger at the local, state and national level. His efforts and involvement represent Geisinger’s mission of caring and one of the many reasons Geisinger delivers quality and value to our communities, patients and members. Having an asset like him who is open and willing to share his experience and expertise with legislators, regulators and their staff is worthy of recognition and I am proud to honor him with Geisinger’s 2018 Excellence in Government Advocacy Award.”

Meadows has participated in countless community outreach activities, including community panels, school assemblies and educational events; helped develop educational material for providers and the public; and leads several collaborative efforts related to substance abuse and opioid addiction, including the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way Behavioral Health and Impact Addiction Treatment Council, Northumberland County Collaborative Coalition’s Executive and Medical Committees, and the Snyder-Union Opioid Collaborative.

Meadows meets with key state and regional legislators on behalf of Geisinger and the PA Coalition of Medical Assistance Managed Care Organizations and collaborates with Geisinger’s Office of Government Relations to develop consistent messaging regarding GHP’s Medicaid programming and managed care overall. He also participates in various national trade association activities on the federal level, such as outreach support functions, national conferences and trade presentations.
