Offering specialized care and support for your loved one

Call 888-478-6227 to speak with a staff member about our services

Our hospice specialists offer the services and support patients and families need when treatment is no longer the best option for care.

For more than 35 years our team members have been providing the experienced and compassionate care patients facing life-limiting advanced illnesses need in a patient’s home, at one of our own facilities or in a skilled nursing or assisted living facility.

We understand that living with these kinds of illnesses can cause physical, emotional and mental stress. That’s why we provide coordination of care, optimal symptom management, educational resources, and family and emotional support through hospice care with Geisinger Home Health & Hospice.

What you should know about hospice

  • Hospice care typically begins with life expectancy of less than six months.
  • Hospice care provides support and comfort to patients, families and caregivers when a cure is no longer an option for a patient’s condition. Hospice care can be given at home or in a skilled care facility and may include:
    • Pain and symptom management to help patients stay comfortable
    • Companionship, assistance, and emotional and spiritual support
    • Bereavement services for family and caregivers
  • Hospice care isn’t just for cancer patients, it’s an option for anyone suffering from a number of conditions, including cardiac and respiratory diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, AIDS or liver and kidney diseases.

Why choose Geisinger for your hospice care?

  • Our hospice services, available on call 24/7, provide the compassionate care that patients and families need, when they need it the most.
  • Nursing services focused on caring rather than cure with individual attention to patients and families
  • We provide round-the-clock physical, emotional and spiritual support patients, caregivers and family members.
  • Geisinger Home Health & Hospice at Maria Hall provides a “home away from home” setting for hospice patients.
  • We offer Camp Courage, a twice-yearly bereavement camp for children and teens who have experienced the loss of loved ones.
  • We offer memorial services, remembrance events and monthly grief support meetings to those who’ve lost a loved one.

Timing of hospice care

Hospice care should begin as a patient’s illness progresses to later stages, which could mean he or she only has months or weeks instead of years of life remaining. Hospice helps the patient and his or her family focus on quality of life. Our goal is to help the patient live each day to its fullest through pain and symptom management and emotional support.

The patient or the patient’s family members should speak to a doctor about a proper time to begin hospice care, as a physician referral is required. If needed, the staff at Geisinger Home Health & Hospice can speak with the patient’s doctor to help with obtaining a referral.
